SS2: Multilevel responses of aquatic macroinvertebrates to drying in freshwater ecosystems

SS3: Advancing our understanding of freshwater biodiversity: the ecological relevance of aquatic parasites

If you are registering your abstract, please indicate the selected Special Session in the note (if interested, but not necessary).

The first plenary speaker for the 4th CESAMIR – Prof. Núria Bonada from Spain

Núria Bonada is Full Professor in Biology and Ecology at the University of Barcelona, Serra Húnter Fellow, ICREA-Academia since 2022, member of the Research Institute of Biodiversity (IRBio), and head of the Freshwater Ecology, Hydrology and Management (FEHM) research group.

She has focused her research on the ecology of river ecosystems, combining fundamental, applied, and social aspects. In particular, she has been interested in understanding the effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on freshwater biodiversity (mainly macroinvertebrates) to improve river conservation and management worldwide, and how citizens can contribute to this research and benefit from it.

Núria will give a lecture preliminary entitled Freshwater biodiversity in Mediterranean climate regions: current status and future trends.

CESAMIR2024 – registration open!

Dear colleagues, dear friends!

We cordially invite you to the 4th Central European Symposium for Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Research (CESAMIR), which will be held in Stará Lesná, Slovakia, on July 7-12, 2024. The symposium is organized by the Plant Science & Biodiversity Center, Slovak Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Slovak Limnological Society and the initiative AquaBOL.SK.

The next CESAMIR aims again to integrate recent achievements of all branches of aquatic macroinvertebrate science, from basic to applied research, including but not limited to taxonomy, biodiversity and faunistics, community and functional ecology, population biology, human impact, water pollution and ecotoxicology, water quality monitoring and metrics, from microhabitat modification to global changes, with a focus on the latest developments and trends, as well as future outlook.

Although, the symposium mainly focuses on the Central European research and problems, participants from outside this area are heartily welcome too. The organizers are gearing up for an exciting and informative conference program including plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations and various social events for up to ± 200 participants.

We invite you to join us at the 4th CESAMIR, where you will be sure to have a meaningful experience and fruitful conversations with scholars and aquatic macroinvertebrate experts from all around Central Europe and beyond. All members of the CESAMIR Organizing committee look forward to meeting you in Stará Lesná, Slovakia.

The registration for the conference is now open, as well as a possibility to suggest Workshops and/or Special Sessions.

4th CESAMIR postponed to 2022

Dear colleagues, dear CESAMIRers,

despite slight improvement of the COVID situation, the epidemic affected our daily lives and unfortunately also organizing the 4th CESAMIR conference. As you might know, we decided to wait to see if the situation can improve so that we could organize the conference safely. Unfortunately, despite the improvement, the situation remains uncertain. In such a state, the organization of the conference is really complicated and persistent restrictions or concerns about the second wave of the epidemic could negatively affect the conference if it takes place later this year.

Therefore, after discussion with the Scientific Committee, we decided to definitively cancel the organization of the 4th CESAMIR conference in 2020We came to the conclusion that the postponement of the event to 2021 is also out of the question, especially given the likely high concentration of other (planned and postponed) scientific events and therefore 4th CESAMIR moves to 2022.

Although we are very sorry, we believe that this is the right decision. We were very looking forward to organize an high quality event for you and introduce our country to you. But, we hope that you will not forget CESAMIR, the summer of 2022 will come quickly and we will be able to welcome you to the conference, as we had planned for this year.

In connection with the solution of organizational matters all important information for those who have already registered or paid registration fees will be distributed soon.

We thank you very much for your interest in the CESAMIR conference as well as for understanding.

With best wishes,
Sincerely yours,
4thCESAMIR organizing team
